Week Three - Life Cycle of a Butterfly

Normally we would have also had a delivery of several caterpillars which the children always enjoy observing through magnifying glasses. It's always so exciting to watch them grow bigger and eventually spin themselves a cocoon. The final transformation into a  beautiful butterfly is wonderful and the children love settling them free in the Nursery garden.

Here's some ideas for work or crafts related to the life cycle of a Butterfly, it would be great to see what you've been doing. Don't forget to email me your pictures!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Animated Film

In the internationally acclaimed The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a tiny caterpillar eats and eats...and eats his way through the week.

Nursery Home Learning Challenges

Can you have a go at using paint and some sponges to create your own printed caterpillar patterns?

Or you could try making some 'digital art' on the Purple Mash website.

Go to the Purple Mash website at and sign up for a free 14 day trial. This is a great website with loads of resources that we regularly use in Nursery on the interactive board. I used the 2Simple 2Paint programme to create my caterpillar! Have fun :)
